Enhancing Patient Care through Thoughtful Design at Antara Health

Antara Health is a telehealth company dedicated to providing comprehensive patient care through innovative digital solutions. Recognizing the need to improve patient engagement and streamline care processes, Antara Health sought to develop a patient app portal that would serve as a central hub for patient interactions and care management.

What we did

  • User Research: 
    Conducted extensive research to understand the nuanced needs and behaviors of patients, ensuring the app's design would be user-centric and address real-world challenges.​
     

  • Persona Development: 
    Developed detailed personas representing various patient demographics, which guided the design process to cater to diverse user needs effectively.​
     

  • Collaborative Strategy: 
    Partnered closely with the Product Co-Founder to establish robust product development processes, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation within the team.​
     

  • Design Execution: 
    Led the design of the patient app portal, focusing on intuitive navigation, accessibility, and engaging interfaces to enhance the overall patient experience.

Enhancements that increase impact

While the original patient app portal was implemented without AI integration, there are several impactful opportunities where artificial intelligence could significantly improve both the patient and provider experience, particularly in streamlining workflows and enhancing care accuracy.

AI-Assisted Patient Intake

One of the key friction points in healthcare onboarding is the patient intake process. Patients often struggle to articulate symptoms using medical terminology, leading to incomplete or unclear data for clinicians.

AI Enhancement:
By incorporating conversational AI with local language natural language processing (NLP), Antara could enable intelligent patient intake that extracts relevant medical details from conversations—even when patients use layman’s terms. This AI would:

  • Analyze and translate ongoing conversations between patients and care providers in real time.

  • Contextually identify symptoms, medication history, and lifestyle indicators.

  • Prompt healthcare professionals with relevant follow-up questions and highlight missing or ambiguous information.

  • Automatically populate patient records with structured, clinically relevant data

IMPACT

This approach shortens the onboarding timeline, reduces miscommunication, and allows care services to begin immediately after the intake call—improving both efficiency and patient satisfaction.

AI-Driven Health Management & Monitoring

Managing chronic conditions and ongoing treatment plans requires precision and vigilance. Human error or delays in communication can lead to significant risks for patients.

AI Enhancement:

AI-powered workflow tools can continuously monitor patient data and proactively manage care plans by:

  • Tracking medication schedules and flagging potential drug interactions.

  • Sending automated refill reminders to patients or alerts to healthcare providers.

  • Identifying irregularities or warning signs in health metrics (from wearables or manual inputs) and prompting timely intervention.

  • Offering predictive insights into disease progression based on aggregated patient data.

IMPACT

This reduces the cognitive load on clinicians, prevents avoidable errors, and ensures that patient care is proactive rather than reactive, especially critical in resource-constrained environments like telehealth.
